Jonathan Toews
Jonathan Toews is the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. His leadership skills have inspired so many people including myself. He shows all five practices of exemplary leadership as written by Kouzes & Posner. He “models the way” because he loves laughing and hanging out with his teammates and his teammates enjoy his company. When addressing the media he doesn’t put the blame on anyone when loosing and he credits his team for their accomplishments when winning. He “inspires” and he “challenges the process” because he focuses on the end goal of winning the championship. The team does celebrate victories but he lets them know that there’s still work to be done. He enables others to act because his passion and love for the game and his team is so strong his teammates cannot help but just follow his excitement. He “encourages the hearts” of his teammates by calling them just to see how they are doing.

In the next five years the practical steps that I could take to be like Jonathan Toews are to communicate more effectively, to be goal oriented and to take charge of certain situations. I am a quiet individual, I need to step out of my comfort zone and communicate to others more than I do now. I don’t see myself as a very goal-oriented person. If I was a little bit more goal oriented I believe it will benefit me in becoming a leader. While working with a group I usually sit back and follow the ideas of someone else. If I take charge of a leadership role in a group It will help me to become a leader like Jonathan Toews.
